Airtel collaborates with Tech Mahindra Private for 5G network being deployed at Chakan auto plant
As part of a strategic alliance with Tech Mahindra, Airtel has installed a private 5G network at Mahindra’s Chakan manufacturing facility. The businesses claimed that Mahindra’s Chakan facility has evolved into India’s first automobile manufacturing facility supported by a 5G network.
The deployment of the captive private network has significantly improved Chakan’s network connectivity and improved speeds for software flashing, a crucial operation for all vehicular dispatches. Managers can now conduct multiple software flashing sessions concurrently, thanks to high network speeds and extremely low latency. It was added that the fully automated computer vision-based inspection carried out through the private network improved paint quality. At a Bosch facility in Bengaluru, Airtel successfully tested a private 5G network in July using the Department of Telecommunications trial 5G spectrum (DoT).
Ajay Chitkara, Director and CEO of Airtel Business, said, “We are thrilled to partner with Tech Mahindra and Mahindra Auto to demonstrate this transformation and have made the Chakan manufacturing facility India’s first 5G enabled auto Manufacturing Unit. Reliable data networks will prove to be a key differentiator in factory & manufacturing performances as the industry 4.0 paradigm gains traction”. “This is just the beginning, and I’m confident that we’ll present a lot more creative use cases that will help reimagine Indian manufacturing, “Chitkara continued.
Manisha Vyas, President, Communications, Media, and Entertainment Business and CEO, of Network Services, Tech Mahindra, said, “We are confident that this partnership will help unlock opportunities across industries to improve productivity, drive intelligent network-led enterprise digitalization, and spur innovation.” According to Airtel, the combination of Tech Mahindra’s experience in private wireless network planning, design, deployment, and management, along with its connectivity portfolio, will benefit enterprise customers and hasten the adoption of 5G in India.
